Congratulations!!

Zahira College Chess Players recorded outstanding achievements at the Sri Lanka Individual Zonal Chess Championship 2026 (Colombo Zone), organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Chess Association which was held at Ananda College, Colombo from 06^th to 07^th June 2026.

A total of 53 Chess players from Zahira College participated in the above tournament.

Master Thameem Husainee emerged as the Champion in the Under 18 age category, while M.F.M. Umair became 2^nd Runner-up in the same age category. In the Under 16 age category, Master Salik Rafi finishing in 4^th place.

Other FIDE-rated chess players including Master Thariq Preena, M. Shazni Shafan, M. Raihan Rilwan, M. Maahir Marikkar, and Yusuf Tharique, delivered commendable performances, securing direct qualification for the upcoming Provincial Tournament. In addition, a further 15 players from Zahira College were selected to participate in the said tournament, and 12 players were awarded Merit Certificates in recognition of their performance.

Zahira College is immensely proud of its Chess players for excelling at this prestigious Tournament and extends its sincere congratulations to all the achievers.

These remarkable accomplishments mark a historic milestone in the development of Chess at Zahira College.
